We install windows that use double strength glass exclusively.  This simply means it's twice as thick as single strength.  We have available through PPG Industries the Intercept Warm-Edge Spacer System.  This system, the panes with spacing, improves the performance and longevity of the insulated glass unit by providing a more stable sash thereby reducing dramatically the opportunity for moisture to penetrate. It comes standard on all Alside windows.

Since energy efficiency is a major reason in the decision to install a replacement window, you should certainly give careful consideration to a true modern day miracle, LOW-E (low emissivity glass).  It is an excellent barrier against ultra-violet rays which can fade your carpet or furniture.  LOW-E, combined with Argon gas, increases the energy efficiency of the window substantially.  The Argon gas replaces the air between the two window panes.  It is colorless, ordorless, non-toxic, and above all, safe, inert (heavier than air) gas.  Argon gas also works as a sound barrier because it alters the speed of sound.  It improves the efficiency of windows in virtually any climate.

Combining the Intercept Warm-Edge Spacer System with the LOW-E and Argon gas, along with, of course, an excellent R-value frame, gives you a highly energy efficient glass environment which does not conduct heat or cold, protects the interior environment, and, over a period of time, will pay for itself with reduced energy costs.
